To
ensure sustainable forest resources, STIDC embarks
on smart partnership in forest plantation with
the private sector with an ultimate objective
to establish 1.0 million hectares of planted forests
over the next 15-20 years with an annual production
of 20 million cubic metres. This will help to
rehabilitate degraded land as a result of shifting
cultivation and logging activities. Besides providing
high yield and high revenue timber resources these
projects also help to alleviate pressure on natural
forest and stabilize the forest environment as
well as restoration of biological diversity.
STIDC was tasked to develop Tanjung Manis into
a new economic development hub of the central
region of Sarawak. From a remote area with limited
communication linkages, Tanjung Manis has been
transformed into a modern township with good infrastructure
like roads, telecommunication, airport, deep water
port, administrative, and commercial centres as
well as educational and recreational facilites.
I hope that this
portal would benefit both local and international
timber investors as well as the public in general
towards providing precise and up to date information
on the STIDC as an organization and the investment
climate of the state to potential investors.
