In an effort to ensure quality of sawn timber export from Sarawak, The State Government through STIDC has enforced The Timber Grading Regulation.The timber grading exercise was implemented in Sarawak by virtue of The Timber Grading Regulations, 1975 and the Timber Grading (Amendment) Regulations, 1983.

Under these regulations, all sawntimber exported from Sarawak must be graded according to the Malaysian Grading Rules. STIDC is empowered under the above regulations as the Grading Authority in Sarawak.

 

Type of Technical Services:-

The timber will be graded by the Timber Graders who have been trained by STIDC. Timber Inspectors from STIDC will carry out checking-grading on 10% of the volume at random. This is provided under the Timber Grading Regulations that all sawntimber will be graded and check-graded before permit is issued for export to meet buyer's requirement in accordance with the MGR. Check-grading fee is RM0.50/m³.

 
Full Grading
Prior arrangement will have to be made and agreed between the buyer and seller, STIDC may undertake the full grading of timber when requested. The grading fee is RM5.00/m³.

 
General Inspection
This service is provided at the request of buyer/seller. STIDC will carry out general inspection on the parcel as a whole to certify the overall quality. Inspection fee is RM2.50/m³.

Documents Required

When a parcel of timber that has been satisfactorily graded and check-graded, a grading certificate, which is valid at the time of grading, will be issued by the Grading Authority.

The following documents are required before a Grading Certificate is Issued:

 
True copy of sales / purchase contract signed between the buyer and seller (price may be ommited).

 
Schedule of timber shipped.

 
Grading summary.

 
Other document e.g Sepetir permit issued by the relevent Government Agency.
